Directory Standards

Listing Policy

This policy explains how business listings on NearAfrica are created, reviewed, categorized, verified, corrected, reported, and removed.

Last Updated: September 20, 2026 NearAfrica is a directory and discovery platform. A listing does not by itself mean that NearAfrica endorses, employs, owns, operates, guarantees, or recommends the listed business.

1. Purpose of This Policy

The purpose of this Listing Policy is to establish standards for businesses and other organizations appearing in the NearAfrica directory.

These standards are intended to improve accuracy, transparency, user trust, and the ability of businesses and affected persons to request corrections or raise concerns.

This policy should be read together with the Terms of Service , Privacy Policy , Claim Business Policy , and Report Listing Policy .

2. Listing Eligibility

NearAfrica may list businesses and organizations where there is a reasonable basis for identifying them as genuine entities or operating establishments.

Depending on the source and circumstances, a listing may be created using information supplied by:

  • A business owner
  • An authorized representative
  • A user
  • Publicly available information
  • Approved third-party data sources
  • NearAfrica's own discovery or research processes

A listing may remain unclaimed until an appropriate person completes the NearAfrica claim process.

3. Sources of Listing Information

NearAfrica may combine information from multiple sources when creating or updating a listing.

Examples include:

  • Information submitted directly by businesses
  • Information submitted by users
  • Publicly available business information
  • Public maps or directory information
  • Business websites and public business pages
  • Third-party discovery sources
  • Information supplied during a claim or correction process

The existence of a source does not guarantee that every item obtained from that source is accurate or current.

4. Accuracy and Currency

NearAfrica aims to provide useful and reasonably accurate directory information, but business information can change quickly.

Examples include:

  • Business closures
  • Relocations
  • New telephone numbers
  • Changes in ownership
  • Changes in business categories
  • Changes in operating hours
  • Changes to websites or social-media accounts

NearAfrica does not guarantee that every listing is complete, current, or error-free at every moment.

Users should independently verify important information before relying on it for a transaction, appointment, travel decision, professional service, or other significant decision.

5. Listing Statuses

NearAfrica may use different statuses to communicate the administrative state of a listing.

Unclaimed

No NearAfrica claim has been approved for the listing.

Claimed

A claim has been approved for an authorized representative under the NearAfrica claim process.

Verified

NearAfrica has completed an applicable verification process associated with the listing.

These statuses are administrative labels. They do not constitute a court determination of ownership, licensing, legal compliance, or overall business quality.

6. Claimed Listings

A business may be claimed by an owner or authorized representative through NearAfrica's claim process.

Claim approval may require evidence sufficient for NearAfrica's administrative verification process.

A person must not claim a business that they are not authorized to represent.

Fraudulent, misleading, or unauthorized claims may be rejected, revoked, or investigated.

See the Claim Business Policy for additional information.

7. Verified Listings

A verified status indicates that NearAfrica has completed a defined verification process.

Verification should not be interpreted as a guarantee that:

  • The business is licensed for every activity it performs
  • Every piece of listing information is current
  • The business is financially or professionally suitable for a particular user
  • NearAfrica endorses the business
  • NearAfrica guarantees the quality of the business's products or services

Verification is an administrative platform status, not a universal certification.

9. Listing Content Standards

Listing information should be relevant to the business and should not intentionally mislead users.

Business descriptions should not:

  • Falsely claim government approval
  • Falsely claim NearAfrica endorsement
  • Impersonate another business
  • Contain fraudulent contact information
  • Intentionally misrepresent the nature of the business
  • Contain unlawful or prohibited material
  • Be primarily designed to manipulate directory search results

10. Images, Logos, and Intellectual Property

Images, logos, photographs, videos, and other creative material submitted to NearAfrica should be submitted only when the person submitting them has appropriate permission or rights to do so.

Do not upload:

  • Stolen photographs
  • Copyrighted material without appropriate permission
  • Private images without appropriate authorization
  • Misleading images that materially misrepresent a business
  • Images intended to impersonate another business

Copyright and intellectual-property complaints may be submitted through the Report Listing process.

11. Prohibited or Problematic Listings

NearAfrica may reject, restrict, remove, or investigate listings that appear to involve:

  • Fake businesses
  • Impersonation
  • Fraudulent representations
  • Deliberately misleading information
  • Duplicate listings created to manipulate visibility
  • Malicious spam
  • Illegal activity
  • Content that violates applicable law
  • Content that infringes intellectual-property rights
  • Content that creates a serious privacy or safety concern
  • Attempts to manipulate reviews, ratings, or rankings

Action may depend on the available evidence and the circumstances of each case.

12. Duplicate Listings

NearAfrica may consolidate, merge, restrict, or remove duplicate listings when multiple records appear to represent the same business.

Businesses and users should not intentionally create multiple listings for the same location solely to increase visibility.

Where two listings appear to represent different branches or locations, NearAfrica may retain them separately when there is a reasonable basis to do so.

13. Closed, Relocated, or Changed Businesses

If a business closes, relocates, changes ownership, or substantially changes its operations, its listing may be updated.

Depending on the circumstances, NearAfrica may:

  • Update the listing
  • Mark it as closed
  • Restrict its visibility
  • Merge it with another listing
  • Remove it from active directory results

14. Corrections and Updates

If you identify incorrect information, you can request a correction.

Useful correction requests should identify:

  • The affected business
  • The information that is incorrect
  • The proposed correction
  • Evidence supporting the correction where appropriate

NearAfrica may request additional information before changing information where there is a reasonable risk of fraud, impersonation, or unauthorized alteration.

15. Reporting a Listing

Anyone who reasonably believes a listing violates this policy may submit a report.

Reportable concerns may include:

  • Incorrect information
  • Fake or unverifiable businesses
  • Impersonation
  • Fraud concerns
  • Duplicate listings
  • Privacy concerns
  • Copyright concerns
  • Unauthorized content
  • Other serious listing-policy violations

See Report Listing for the reporting process.

16. Removal Requests

A person may request review of a listing for possible removal.

A removal request does not automatically result in deletion.

NearAfrica may consider:

  • Whether the listing appears to represent a real business
  • Whether the information is materially inaccurate
  • Whether the requester has authority or a legitimate interest
  • Whether the information was obtained from a legitimate source
  • Whether there is a legal reason requiring removal
  • Whether the information should instead be corrected

Some information may be retained internally even when public display is restricted, where reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance, or audit purposes.

17. Moderation and Administrative Action

NearAfrica may use automated systems, administrative review, or a combination of both to identify potential listing problems.

Administrative actions may include:

  • Approving a listing
  • Rejecting a submission
  • Requesting additional information
  • Correcting information
  • Restricting visibility
  • Removing content
  • Suspending a claim
  • Revoking a claim
  • Merging duplicate records

NearAfrica may maintain administrative records of significant moderation actions for accountability, security, and dispute handling.

18. Listing Disputes

Businesses and affected persons may disagree with information displayed on a listing.

NearAfrica may consider competing information from different parties and may request evidence before making a decision.

A disagreement between two parties does not automatically establish that either party is correct.

NearAfrica may decline to determine legal ownership or other matters that require a court, regulator, or other competent authority.

20. Contact NearAfrica

For corrections, listing disputes, removal requests, legal notices, or policy questions, contact NearAfrica directly.
